Abstract

The aim of this work was to evaluate whether single nucleotide polymorphisms in interferon- gamma (IFN-Þ) (+874T/A) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) (-1082G/A) genes are associated with susceptibility and/or are markers of prognosis to chronic hepatitis C outcomes. Patients and methods: The study was performed on 100 participants; first group was formed of 25 non-cirrhotic patients with chronic hepatitis, and the second group (n=50) was formed of cirrhotic patients and hepatic carcinoma patients control group was formed of 25 healthy subjects. They were all subjected to clinical examination, and laboratory investigations in the form of CBC and liver profile (serum billirubin, albumin, AST, ALT) and prothrombin time and concentration. All groups will be subjected to genotyping for polymorphism in IFN-Þ (+874T/A) and IL-10(-1082G/A) using AS-PCR method. Results: It was found that there is no association between IFN-Þ (+874T/A) and IL-10(-1082G/A) polymorphisms and different disease severities of hepatitis C . Conclusion: We concluded that these gene polymorphisms are not predictors of disease progression in patients with chronic hepatitis C
