Abstract

Two field experiments were conducted at Sakha Agric. Res. Station, Cotton Research Institute, Agricultural Research Center, during 2012 and 2013 seasons, to study the effect of different planting dates on yield, yield components, fiber and yarn properties of some cotton genotypes. The experiments were laid out in a split plot design in a randomized complete block design arrangement with three replications. Three sowing dates (15 April, 30 April and 15 May) were allocated in the main plots and four cotton genotypes (G86, G88, G86X 10299 and {G84 {u00D7} (G70{u00D7}51B)} {u00D7} S62) were assigned in sub-plots. The objective of the present investigation was to study the effect of delaying sowing date on the data quality, traits performance, and traits interrelationships. The results showed that, the majority of the studied traits were normally distributed over years, planting date and genotypes. Slightly negative to positive skewness and kurtosis were observed. Planting dates and genotypes influenced significantly (P<0.01) on yield, fiber and yarn variables. With the exception of plant height and yarn evenness, mean performance of yield and fiber determinants of genotypes declined by delaying planting date. Response curves showed linearly negative effects of delaying planting on cotton yield and fiber traits in the two seasons.
