Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out and compare the effect of vibration training versus resistance exercise on plasma lipoproteins in elderly. This study was conducted in outpatient physical therapy department of Manshite Elbakry general hospital. Sixty elderly subjects (30 men and 30 women), their age ranged from (60 - 70) years, were referred from internal medicine clinic, coming from March 2014 to May 2015. They were randomly assigned into two groups equal in number. Each of them consisted of 30 participants; group (A) enrolled into vibration exercise program, and group (B) enrolled into strength training program. The study lasted for 12 weeks, 3 sessions per week. Evaluation included plasma lipoprotein levels (total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, HDL) done before and after the trial. The results of this study showed a significant improvement in all measuring parameters (decrease levels of total cholesterol: 8.82%, 19.52%); LDL: (8.84%, 19.33%); triglycerides: (6.32%, 19.18%) and increase HDL level: (5.61%, 15.49%) in group A and B in respect. However, a significant difference was noticed in post treatment results of group B in favor to group A. The results of this study testify that both vibration exercise and resistive training have comparable effect on plasma lipoprotein levels in elderly subjects. Conclusion: resisted exercise is significantly effective than vibration training
