Abstract

The present study compared the Shaping and cleaning ability of three rotary Ni-Ti instruments, Protaper, RevoS and WaveOne in preparation of curved root canals. A total of one hundred and twenty mesial root canals of lower human mandibular first and second molars were randomly divided into the three experimental groups. Groups were homogenous in terms of angle, radius ,length of curvature and initial binding file. Each instrument prepared four canals. Irrigation was done using 1.3% NaOCl and GLYDE PREP for lubrication. Pre- and postoperative CBCT images were taken and fusion applied to all specimens to ensure standardization. Shaping ability was assessed by measuring the change in canal curvature. Transportation was determined by measuring the change in dentin thickness at 3 fixed levels. Cleaning efficiency was evaluated by Image J analysis where it calculated the amount of remaining methylene blue dye adhered to the canal walls. The three systems achieved good results regarding the transportation with no significant difference. Both Protaper and WaveOne systems revealed a non significant degree of straightening of canals regarding maintaining canal curvature and RevoS showed the highest degree of straightening. Protaper showed the least amount of remaining dye followed by RevoS and then WaveOne with a statistical significant difference. The usage of CBCT in assessment of shaping ability was an effective technique.
