Abstract

The aim of work is to examine the validity of adenosine deaminase as biochemical marker for the activity and severity of renal diseases. One hundred subjects were participated in the study (49 males and 51 females, their age ranged between 18-62 years). They were divided into four groups: Group(1): included of twenty five healthy normal subjects, Group(2): included of twenty five renal impairment patients, Group(3) included of twenty five chronic renal failure patients and Group(4): included of twenty five chronic renal failure accompanied with viral hepatitis. The results showed that serum levels of adenosine deaminase were significantly higher increase in the renal impairment patients than in the normal subjects. Furthermore, chronic renal failure and chronic renal failure accompanied with viral hepatitis patients had significantly higher levels than that for the renal impairment and the control subjects. Conclusion, the elevated level of biochemical parameter is associated with the severity of renal disease. Thus this parameter may be considered as a good marker for renal disease activity and severity
