Abstract

The objective of the present study is to investigate the relationship between sonographic findings, progesterone level and serum CA - 125 in women presenting with symptoms of threatened abortion and first trimesteric pregnancy outcome. This prospective study was held in the period from October 2014 to May 2015 on 100 patients who attended the antenatal care clinic, Kasr Alaini maternity hospital. The study population consisted of 2 groups. 1st ( control) group: 50 pregnant women in their 1st trimester passing through uneventual pregnancy. 2nd (case) group: 50 pregnant women in their 1st trimester complaining of bloody vaginal discharge or vaginal bleeding ± colicky lower abdominal pain giving a clinical diagnosis of threatened abortion. The results of this study shows that there is high statistical significant difference between aborted, continued and control groups regarding progesterone level and CA125 (P - Value = 0.01) with no statistical difference between the 3 groups regarding GA , CRL and GS diameters ( P - Value > 0.05). The use of ultrasound and maternal serum markers (CA - 125 and progesterone) in the first trimester represent non invasive, early and fast methods that can be considered as a good predictor for the outcome of pregnancy in cases with threatened abortion
