Abstract

Composite columns are constructed using various combinations of steel and concrete in an attempt to utilize the beneficial properties of each material. In modern structural constructions, concrete-{uFB01}lled steel tubular (CFT) columns have gradually become a central element in structural systems like supporting platforms in marine structures, columns supporting roofs of storage tanks, bridge piers, piles, warehouses and high-rise buildings in recent years and in general as columns in structures located in earthquake zones due to their superior ductility. This thesis presents an experimental evaluation to the performance of six conventional concrete and twenty four Shrinkage Reducing Admixtures (CSRA) in concrete filled seamless steel tubular composite columns under monotonically increasing compressive axial load till failure as well as to examine the effects of different percentages of (CSRA) on the mechanical behavior of circular CFT composite columns, failure modes, bond carrying capacity and the confinement of the steel tube through different column dimensions. The experimental results obtained were compared with some national and international codes such as ECP-205, ECP-205, EC4, and AISC. Also results were compared to Theoretical Ultimate Load Resistance and Theoretical Confined Concrete (Mander 1988)
