Abstract

In the first part of this study, an experimental program using Ambient Vibration Testing (AVT) was initiated for some mid-rise reinforced concrete buildings in Cairo and Giza cities in order to explore their real free vibration dynamic behavior, and to capture their in-situ natural frequencies. The second part of this thesis focused on updating the finite element (FE) models of the thesis study cases, and also on investigating the influence of infill masonry wall panels to study their role in increasing the structural lateral stiffness using Equivalent Strut Method. The extracted AVT results from in-situ measurements showed a satisfactory correlation with FE models. Furthermore, AVT results were compared with the approximate values codified in international and local standards. Finally, the study tried to introduce some useful lessons revealing the factors which might handicap or improve the correlation between AVT results for reinforced concrete buildings of infilled masonry and their finite element models
