Abstract

This thesis aimed to the discovery of therapeutic agents derived from Ficus racemosa (L.) and Ficus lyrata (Wrab.) family moraceae by carrying out an applied pharmacognostical study including extraction, isolation and identification of the biologically active constituents. We are looking to reach safe and effective therapeutic agents from botanical origin which can be useful in drug industry. GLC analysis of the cold mucilage hydrolyzates of F. racemosa (L.) leaves representing (64.76%) while F. lyrata (Wrab.) leaves representing (76.34%). Regarding the hot mucilage hydrolysate, it is (79.49%) for F. racemosa (L.) and (79.79%) for F. lyrata (Wrab.). LC\MS revealed the presence of 25 compounds in the petroleum ether fraction of F. lyrata (Wrab.) and 22 compounds in F. racemosa (L.). GC/MS analysis of the unsaponifiable matter of F. racemosa (L.) leaves was (58.51%) and the saponifiable matter was (99.1%). GC/MS analysis of the unsaponifiable matter of F. lyrata (Wrab.) was (60.36 %) and the saponifiable matter was (79.86%). Column charomatography of the petroleum ether fraction of F. lyrata (Warb.) leaves leads to isolation of 3 compounds; heneicosane, docosane and 10, 14 tetracosadiene
