Abstract

This research examines the relative health risks associated with different wastewater management strategies in a {u2018}typical{u2019} drainage basin in the delta region. Inflow to the drainage basin is considered to be wastewater flows from houses, plus the flow in a notional downstream drain. In Egypt, effluents from WWTPs and from household sanitation are disposed of in the network of agricultural streams; such discharge is heavily regulated through law 48 / 1982 while the discharge of untreated wastewater is theoretically prohibited. However, with low rates of connectivity to the sewerage network, discharge of untreated wastes certainly does occur. In reality, re - use of both treated and untreated wastewater is common. The ultimate objective would be to develop a framework for long-term monitoring of the impacts of the available treatment and Sanitation systems on health and environment as well as a group of proposed solutions will be studied in order to minimize the health-related impacts
