Abstract

The quantification of free radicals in irradiated paramagnetic substances based on Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) is a useful method for dosimetry. This work presents the efforts to develop and characterize of an EPR gamma dosimeter based on strontium sulfate and strontium carbonate to be used in process control of radiation technology. The samples were irradiated in a GammaCell irradiator and EPR spectra were recorded using an EMX Bruker spectrometer. The aspects studied were peak-to-peak signal amplitude as a function of received dose, effect of environmental conditions during irradiation, post-irradiation stability, energy dependence as well as assessment of overall uncertainty of absorbed dose measurement. It has been concluded that strontium sulfate can be used as a sensitive material to gamma radiation
