Abstract
The concept of democratic transition demotes a political process whereby a non-democratic regime comes to be replaced by one based on competitive elections and universal suffrage. The historical record indicates that democracy is rarely established in any country without widespread popular struggle and mobilization, sometimes over a lengthy period and at considerable personal cost. Ordinary people have to be convinced of the necessity of democratic government to the realization of their basic aspirations, and must organize to demand it. This thesis compares between Egypt’s revolution on January 2011 and south Korea’s revolution on June 1987. This attempts to compare the performance of the revolutions and democratic process of the two countries. This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction. The second chapter is a historical overview of Egypt and South Korea and in the following chapter; the indications of the revolutions are explored. In chapter IV and V, how both revolutions overthrew the old authority structure and established democratic structures are dealt with. In the last chapter, comparative assessment and final word are proposed
