Abstract

Proadrenomedullin (pro - ADM), is a stable precursor molecule, was reported to correlate well with other markers such as IL - 6 and CRP as a predictor of prognosis in patients with sepsis. Elevations of pro - ADM have been reported in systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and sepsis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the value of pro - ADM measurement in the prognosis and of neonatal sepsis and its possible correlation with the C-reactive protein level. This study was performed on 60 neonates (preterm and term), both genders comprise two groups: (group 1) 30 neonates with culture proven sepsis condition, and 30 age and sex matched normal neonates (control group) (group 2),admitted in the NICU of Elgalaa Teaching Hospital between July 2013 and January 2014. Complete blood count with differential leucocytic count, CRP, blood culture and Proadrenomedullin level were measured by ELISA and compared between both group at time of sepsis evaluation and again at 120 hrs after first presentation
