Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate microalbuminuria at mid pregnancy, using albumin/creatinine(ACR) ratio, as apridictor of preeclampsia. Methods This prospective observational study was carried out on 216 normotensive women ,aged 18-35years,and live singleton pregnancy between 24-28 weeks .In all ACR was measured in spot random urine samples ,normoalbuminuria was an ACR<30mg/g creatinine ,where as microalbuminuria was an ACR of 30-299mg/g creatinine. All were followed till delivery. Results Of all 77.1%(166/216) had normoalbuminuria and 22.9%(50/216) had microalbuminuria .Of 50 microalbuminuric women ,the mean blood pressure was significantly higher in those who developed preeclampsia, the mean ACR in women who developed preeclampsia was significantly higher than in women who remained normotensive. Of 50 microalbuminuric women, 18 (36.4%) developed preeclampsia and 12(24.2%) had preterm births as a complication. Conclusion Microalbuminuria at mid pregnancy may be a significant predictor of preeclampsia
