Abstract To ovaluate epidemiologic and demographic characteristics of pancreatic cancer patients managed at the National cancer institute (NCI), Ciro university (CU) over the period from january 2006 till December 2010, focusing on the relation of these factors with the prognosis. This is a retrospective cohort study. Between January 2006 and December 2010, 902 cases were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the NCI. The medical records of 336 patients were available to review. Patients’ demographics and clinical characteristics were included and overall survival (OS) was calculated from the time of diagnosis to death or last follow up. The mean age of the patients was 56.4 years with a standard deviation of 12 years, 64.9% were males, 39.5% were routine and manual workers, 34.8% were from urban areas, 55.1% reside in the Cairo metropolitan area and the Delta, 52.4% experienced abdominal pain referred to the back and 36.3% experienced jaundice |
