Abstract

The main objective of this study is to evaluate the land resources of some areas at Beni - Suef governorate east the river Nile. The studied area is located between longitudes 31 05’ and 30 55’ east and latitudes 28 40’ and 29 00’ north. It covers an area of about 111120.0 fed. A physiographic analysis using visual interpretation on a false colour composite of landsat 7 image (bands 7, 4, 2) and digital elevation model was carried out to delineate the different physiographic units. Twenty five soil profiles and sixty minipits were examined to represent the soils of the study area. The study area was separated to two landscapes. The plateau landscape covers 98.3% of the study area. It separated according to relief to hills (37.9%), undulating/rolling (13.3%) and almost flat (47.1%). The flood plain landscape covers 1.7% of the study area. In addition 18.2% of the area is rock outcrop. The soils of the studied area are classified as aridisols (typic calcigypsids, typic haplosalids, typic haplogypsids, typic haplocalcids) and entisols (typic torriothents and typic torripsamment). Descriptive soil properties maps of soil depth, texture, soil salinity, ESP, CaCO₃ and gypsum were created
