Abstract

Wastewater treatment is a process used to remove contaminants from
wastewater and convert it into an effluent that can be returned to the
water cycle. Once returned to the water cycle, the effluent creates an
acceptable impact on the environment or is reused for various purposes
(called water reclamation). In fertilizer plants water is used for the
removal of dust, cooling tower and industrial process steps. Wastewater
treatment is a major problem in such complex fertilizer plant from the
environmental pollution point of view . wastewater from chemical
fertilizer industry mainly contain organics, inorganic and suspended
solids The resulting wastewater contains calcium and sulfate in
hazardous forms. Our turn in this research is to remove these ions
without interaction between each other to avoid calcium sulfate (CaSo4)
formation which causes many problems during its filtration and disposal.
To achieve this purpose, we separated the path of industrial wastewater
that contains sulfate ions from other that contains calcium ions to
prevent the formation of calcium sulfate and several reagents were tested
focusing on types of reagent and the resulting effect. Anew chelators
were prepared by reaction of ethylene diamine with ethyl acetoacetate,
tri-ethyl citrate and di-ethyl oxalate to produce organic chelators rich in
oxygen atoms that have a good effect on removing calcium and sulfate
ions
