Abstract

Pot experiment was conducted at the Horticulture department roof in saran greenhouse, Agric. Fac., Zagazig Univ., Sharkia Governorate, Egypt during summer season 2020 to enhance rooting and growth of Dracaena marginata var. bicolor cuttings by using different media types [sand, sand: clay (1: 1, v: v) and sand: peat moss (1: 1, v: v)], indole-3 butyric acid (IBA) concentrations (0.0, 2000 and 4000 ppm) as well as their combination treatments. The obtained results referred to that using sand: peat moss mixture media significantly increased number of branches per cut and root length compared to the medium under study. The highest values in number of branches per cut, total fresh and dry weights of plant and root fresh weight per cut were achieved when cuttings planted in sand: clay media compared to sand alone or sand: peat moss medium. In the other side, increasing IBA concentrations gradually enhanced rooting and vegetative growth of Dracaena cuttings. In addition, the maximum values of the most of all above mentioned characters were produced by treating cuttings with 4000 ppm IBA when planted in sand: clay or sand: peat moss media.
