Abstract This invitro study was conducted to compare between retention force and wear resistance of telescopic and nova loc dental attachments for two implant – supported mandibular over dentures. An epoxy resin model representing a completely edentulous mandible with a class I (ACP) The epoxy resin model was prepared with two implants analog in the canine area. Two attachments were ready to be picked up in the denture. In order, telescopic attachment was constructed and picked up in the denture, then nova loc picked up in the other one. the telescopic abutment with 5,5 mm length was used, another abutment made of titanium, and is coated with an amorphous diamond-like carbon was used for nova loc attachment The two outcomes retention and wear were measured and evaluated at base line and after {500- 1000- 1500 and 2000} cycles corresponding to 3- 6-9 and 12 months of simulated clinical use. The force was applied by using universal testing machine and the surface areas, perimeter and diameter of wear was detected by digital microscope. A denture was placed on the model with 3 hooks, one in the midline of the anterior area of the denture, and the last 2 hooks in the posterior molar area. The force on the denture were applied through the hooks, and then the area of wear detected. Every attachment was subjected to vertical forces at geographic center of the overdenture {vertical anterior force, vertical posterior} then the retention value and wear resistance was calculated and the results were analyzed The study revealed that there was statistically significantly reduce in retention in both groups. The initial retention of telescope is much higher than the nova loc, this was one of the causes that explain why the nova loc was lesser than the telescopic one, and this is due to the peek material of cap that also improve its wear resistance |
