Abstract

Liver fibrosis, cirrhosis and HCC are one of the most major causes of morbidity and mortality in the world especially in Egypt. It occurs an outcome of chronic hepatitis C or B infection, alcoholic liver disease, NAFLD, auto immune diseases and toxic substances. Liver fibrosis is manifested by accumulation of ECM proteins by a great amount and many therapeutic strategies were developed to reduce it by removing the causative agent or treatment of underlying cause. Although, anti-fibrotic therapies were developed to get rid of it but nowadays, many strategies are developed to be targeted to HSCs which are the main source of ECM proteins. Researchers used herbal antioxidants in protection and treatment of liver diseases such as ginger, curcumin, silymarin, green tea but in the last decade, they gave attention to use nano technology in medical issues. Therefore, the aim of the present work was to evaluate the protective effect of each silymarin, nano-encapsulation of ginger extract and mixture of them on hepatotoxicity induced by Ccl4 in adult male albino rats.
In the present study, 80 adult male albino rats weighing about 150-200 gm were divided into six groups.
group I (control group): Rats were divided into three subgroups (each has ten rats):
a-Negative control received no treatment for six weeks. (10 rats)
b-Positive control received one ml corn oil twice a week by intra peritoneal injection for six weeks. (10 rats)
c-Another positive control received one ml distilled water orally every day for six weeks. (10 rats)
group II (nano-encapsulation of ginger extract group) (10 rats): Rats received 50mg/kg/day of nano -encapsulation of ginger extract every day orally for six weeks.
group III (Ccl4 treated group) (10 rats): Rats received 0.1ml/100gm of Ccl4 dissolved in corn oil (1:1) twice a week by intraperitoneal injection for six weeks.
