Abstract

Management ofsupracondylar fracturesof the humerus in children byclosed reduction and percutaneous pinning is effective in obtaining good results, safe regarding avoidance of vascular complications and relatively economic.
The configuration of pin for fixation that provides adequate stability with the lowest risk of iatrogenic nerve injury is of great interest.
In our prospective study, transolecranon & lateral Kirschner wires fixation is an effective option for displaced supracondylar humeral fractures in children especially when there is massive elbow swelling as the olecranon is still palpable,in the presence of fractures that need more than two lateral wires or need medial wire for maintenance of stability and the risk of iatrogenic ulnar nerve injury is very low.
Finally, we advise that the Transolecranon + lateral Kirschner wires fixation is an effective option that provides good stability in management of supracondylar fracture of the humerus in children and the risk of nerve injury is very low.
