Abstract

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) following ILM peeling after macular hole (MH) surgery has showed the dynamic sealing process with two main drawbacks including foveal tissue elongation and macular migration. In addition, there is a significant correlation between these morphologic changes and visual function such as metamorphopsia . Also there are reports of reduced retinal sensitivity in the peeled area and para-central scotomata .Latest technique to manage macular holes, using a human amniotic membrane (hAM) plug implanted in the retina, has encouraging results and shows the possibility of retinal tissue regeneration .The current study will assess the efficacy of hAM patch in MH closure in terms of anatomical success and restoration of foveal microstructure and improvement of best corrected visual acuity (BCVA). The procedure will not include ILM peeling. Conclusion: The hAM patch for primary FTMH repair, without ILM peeling, is an effective, and reproducible technique in improving the final BCVA and promotion of hole closure
