Abstract

Background: Depression is associated with endothelial dysfunction, smooth muscle cell proliferation, thrombus formation factors known to contribute to the process of In-stent restenosis (ISR). Objectives: This study was performed to assess the relationship between depression and ISR. Methods: 142 patients with previously deployed stents were enrolled, 89 patients in group I had ISR, while 53 patients in group II had no ISR. Both groups had not denovou lesions. Degree of restenosis was classified into less than 50% stenosis and more than 50% then Hamilton depression score was applied to the patients and classified them to mild, moderate and severe according to the degree of depression. Results: The study showed a highly significant difference between patients with ISR and patients with a patent stent as a p value of 0,000 not only the depression showed a significant difference but also the degree of depression and depression scale with the degree of in-stent restenosis as a the p value of (0.003 ), the depression scale in the group( I) was (10.29±4.51) with a range of (1-24) VS the group (II) that was (7.72± 3.40) with a range of (2-23). Determinant of atherosclerosclerosis: Age, gender, diabetes, hypertension and smoking history are equally distributed between the two group. Conclusion: Depression has a significant relation with ISR
