Abstract

Introduction: Hearing aid benefit could be measured objectively by comparing aided and unaided measures and it can be measured subjectively with self-report measures. Objective measures are important for hearing assessment in individuals who are unable to provide behavioral responses to reach optimal hearing aids fitting verification. Study design: Prospective study. Objectives: This study was designed to compare the unaided and aided Auditory steady state response (ASSR) and tone burst auditory brainstem response (TB ABR) thresholds with the behavioral unaided and aided sound field audiometry in adult patients with sensorineural hearing loss using two non-linear hearing aid fitting formulae; DSL v5 and NAL-NL2. Then, to correlate the outcomes with the client orient scale of improvement (COSI) and abbreviated profile of hearing aid benefit (APHAB) questionnaires. Methods: This study included twenty hearing impaired adults, their hearing thresholds ranged from moderate to moderately severe sensorineural hearing loss and had previous experience with hearing aids. Their age ranged from eighteen to sixty years, and the mean duration of hearing aid experience was 3.85 ± 5.02 years. Subjects were examined in three scheduled sessions; unaided, aided NAL-NL2 and aided DSL V5. Each session was two months after the previous session. Each session included behavioral free field, TB ABR and ASSR testing. The patient satisfaction was assessed using COSI and APHAB questionnaires for each hearing aid fitting formulae
