Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is the greatest risk factor of coronary heart diseases and atherosclerosis. Currently available hypolipidemic drugs have been associated with number of side effects compare with allopathic drugs (alternative medicine), Fatachee Drug as natural comparable product was selected in this study and the present study based on investigate the anti-hypolipidemic activity of ethanol extracts (50%) of the dried plant material of aerial parts of Melissa officinalis L. and Alchemilla Vulgaris L. and Seeds of Foeniculum vulgare Mill against HFD- induced hyperlipidemia in rats. The results revealed that these ethanol extracts have possesses strong antioxidant activities may be attributed to high content of polyphenolic compounds in these extracts. It was found that simultaneous administration of these ethanol extracts (500 mg/kg/day) with HFD for 6 weeks, significantly (P<0.05) decreased the rise in concentrations of serum MDA, TC, TG, LDL-Ch, VLDL-Ch, oxycholesterols compounds, atherogenic index, liver and kidney functions and significantly (P<0.05) increased TAC, CAT, HDL-cholesterol and albumin as compared to HFD fed control rats. Thus, the results indicate antiperoxidative and hypolipidemic efficacy of these herbal extracts. Treatment with these ethanol extracts also reduces the histopathological abnormalities of aorta and liver tissues associated with hyperlipidemia
