Abstract

In recent approaches to heritage conservation, the whole context of historic areas becomes as important as the single historic building. This makes the provision of infrastructure, and network of mobility an effective element in the urban conservation. Sustainable urban conservation projects consider the importance of the configuration of the mobility network. A sustainable urban mobility management is an essential and challenging issue in the urban conservation projects. Depending on literature review and practical analysis, this research tries to define the guidelines for mobility management in historic districts as a key element in sustainability of urban conservation projects. The literature review focuses on the mobility generators, patterns, modes, aspects, problems and needs in historic districts, in addition to the modal shift from the conventional mobility to the sustainable mobility. The practical analysis includes a comparison between mobility plans have been implemented in different cities; freiburg and hamburg in Germany, zurich in switzerland and bray town in Ireland
