Abstract The present study investigated serum levels of MCP-1 in 80 hospitalized children with community-acquired pneumonia. It was found that serum MCP-1 levels were significantly higher in non-survivors compared to survivors. There was a significant direct correlation between MCP-1 and respiratory distress, ESR and CRP. Increased serum MCP-1 demonstrated higher sensitivity and specificity in predicting mortality outcome compared to ESR and CRP. Young age, mechanical ventilation and high ESR significantly predicted mortality outcome |
