Abstract
HRQOL is a multidimensional construct, consisting at minimum of the physical, psychological (including emotional and cognitive), and social health dimensions delineated by the World Health Organization. HRQOL, which assesses a patient{u2019}s subjective perception of the impact of disease and treatment on health and well-being, has been increasingly acknowledged as an important outcome in children with SS. Aim of work: To assess HRQOL among pediatric patients with SS and compare them to healthy controls. Patients and methods: This was a Cross sectional study conducted on 65 SS patients and 50 age and sex matched normal healthy controls. HRQOL was assessed by using World Health Organization Quality Of Life BREF questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF) for cases and controls. Results: The mean ±SD age of the patients was 12.78 ± 2.82 years. Children with SS showed significant lower height SDS, weight SDS and BMI SDS than that of normal controls (p= {u02C2}0.001). They also showed significant lower HRQOL scores compared to normal controls as regards physical, psychological and environmental domains of WHOQOL (p= {u02C2}0.001). Social domain is the most affected at non treated SS children (p value = 0.043). There was a positive correlation between IQ assessment and WHOQOL psychological (r= 0.299, P=0.025) and environmental domains (r= 0.286, P=0.033)
