Abstract

This study was performed to compare between two types of implant supported overdenture attachments and their effects on muscular activity. The sample of this study consisted of ten patients selected from the outpatient clinic of the Prosthodontic Department Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Cairo University. All patients were completely edentulous. The patients received two implants in the canine region. The implants were then loaded 3 months after insertion with delivery of overdenture prostheses. Patients have been grouped into:group (I) 5 patients with bar attachments over the implantsgroup (II) 5 patients with magnet attachments over the implants Patients were satisfied with their dentures; no mobility was detected in both groups. All cases have been evaluated for muscle activity using electromyogram, Comparing the two groups throughout the whole study period, there was no significant difference between the two groups regarding the effect of treatment. As a conclusion within the limitation of this study, the type of attachment used with implant retained overdenture prosthises did not affect either the final outcome or the per-implant tissue response
