Abstract The main objective of this work is to study the structural setting and tectonic evolution of Horus field using high quality 3D seismic reflection and borehole data. Hydrocarbon play elements of study area were evaluated to better understand Alamein basin. Aptian- lower senonian seismically traced levels show a major early senonian NE-plunging anticline, formed due to a mild phase of inversion, overlying the jurassic-barremian half-graben. The area was subjected to a mild extensional phase related to late tertiary extension. Alamein basin hosts a thick mature source rock of middle jurassic khatatba formation. Available data and burial history modeling measure an age of senonian to late tertiary time of hydrocarbon expulsion and migration. The structural leads were developed in early senonian time and oil retention remains critical in some traps in Alamein basin |
