Abstract

Two years field study was conducted at agriculture Exp. and Res. Sta. at Giza, Faculty agriculture, Cairo university, Egypt during 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 seasons to determine productivity and NUE of three wheat varieties under different seeding rates and nitrogen fertilizer levels. The experiments were laid out according to randomized complete block design having split-split-plot arrangements with four replications. Three nitrogen levels (75, 100 and 125 kg N/fed.) allocated to main plots, while three seeding rates (200, 300 and 400 grains/m²) were kept in sub-plots and three wheat varieties (sakha-94, gemmiza-9 and Giza-168) in sub-sub-plots. Nitrogen fertilizer levels had significant effect on heading, plant height and grains weight/spike in the first season, on NAR and LAI at 80 and 100 days ages and grain protein content in the second season and on grain, straw and biological yields, flag leaf area, AGR at 80 days, number of spikes/m², number of grains/spike and NUE in both seasons. All previous characters except NUE were increased with increasing N levels up to 125 kg N/fed. Seeding rates had significant effect on AGR at 80 and 100 days age and number of spikes/m² in both season, on LAI at 80 days, grain yield and straw yield in the first season. Generally, the highest values for the previous traits were produced when seeding wheat with either 300 or 400 grains/m2. Varieties significantly affected all studied trait in both seasons except AGR at 80 days and grain yield/fed. in the second season and NAR at 100 days in the first season and NUE in both seasons
