Abstract

Pleural ultrasonography is a safe, well-established, cheap and readily available technique. CT of the chest has been the gold standard for detection and evaluation of different pleural lesions for decades. In our study, 39 patients, age range 25-84 years with pleural lesions were evaluated using chest CT and trans-thoracic ultrasonography. Pleural ultrasonography was a reliable tool in evaluation of the diffrenet aspects of pleural growth and neoplasia, detection of the extent of spread to the chest wall and diaphragm in neoplastic lesions and predicting the nature of pleural thickening through doppler imaging and pleural effusion through detecting internal echos and septations However, some inherent limiations hinders detection of all masses and nodules especially those of the mediastinal pleura
