Abstract
Historical post-industrial waterfronts suffered from great neglect after the changes in technology and the shifts of economy in the 1960s and 1970s. The study examines the possible role of temporary activities as catalysts in the development of abandoned post- industrial waterfronts with historical significance. The research discusses selected western successful experiences. The main aim of the research is to formalize a set of guidelines for helping professionals in applying such strategy for revitalizing post-industrial waterfronts. The research also studies a number of local cases in order to determine the possibility of applying such strategy in Egypt. Testing the applicability of this strategy in Egypt is done by analyzing a local case study that includes the injection of cultural activities as a catalyst for change in the Egyptian postindustrial site of Mina Albasal in Alexandria
