Abstract

Postoperative wound healing plays a significant role in facilitating a patient’s recovery and rehabilitation. Abdominal wound dehiscence occurs because of various predisposing factors which can be prevented to some extent by having knowledge regarding them. One hundred and thirty patients, who underwent emergency and urgent abdominal surgery, were included in this retrospective case control study to determine predictors for post laparotomy abdominal wound dehiscence. Significant risk factors were age, obesity, previous labarotomy, anemia, hypoalbuminemia, class VI dirty surgical wounds, type of intraabdominal pathology, post operative cough, post operative vomiting, post operative infection and breakthrough of non touch dressing technique.Non significant factors were gender, jaundice, diabetes, uremia, previous use of steroids
