Abstract

In this thesis, the facility location-allocation problem in the strategic stage of the supply chain planning is addressed. In the proposed problem, a multilayer (4-layer) supply chain network that includes suppliers, plants, distribution centers (DCs), and demand points (DPs) is studied to determine locations of facilities in two of the four layers; plants and DCs. The allocation of product flow to facilities in the supply chain network, Inventory level decisions in DCs, and the position of the customer order decoupling point (CODP) are incorporated in the strategic decision of facility location. All these decisions are studied on a multi-period (dynamic) planning horizon to investigate the effect of demand variability along time. The problem is formulated as a dynamic mathematical model with a profit maximization objective. The opening and closing of plants and DCs decisions are budget constrained. Plants and DCs are capacitated, and inventory is allowed only at DCs. Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Successive Shortest Path (SSP) algorithm are proposed and used to develop a solution algorithm for the problem
