Abstract

This study focuses on examining the effect of political satire programs on university students and their influence on the students{u2019} satisfaction with the political performance in Egypt. Previous studies focused on the correlation between exposure to political satire programs and involvement in the political process, whether by participation in the process, evaluation of candidates, or even trusting political figures. The study was carried out on a purposive sample of 450 young Egyptians aged 16-30. A sample of opinion leaders and elites in the field was also studied. The research follows a triangulation by combining two research methodologies; survey as a quantitative method and in-depth interviews as a qualitative one. The theoretical framework is Mediatization Theory. According to the findings of the study, for university students, the more they are exposed to political satire programs, the more they feel cynicism towards politics and less satisfied with the political performance. In addition the study result exhibited the influence political satire programs have on political participation among the youth, as well as their attitudes towards the local media
