Abstract

The aim of the current study was to assess organizational trust and its relation to staff nurse retention in their job.
Results of the present study revealed that:
• Nearly half of the staff nurse had a high level of organizational trust; more than half had a high level of trust in their co-workers, nearly half of them had a high level of trust in their supervisors, and nearly half had a high level of trust in the organizational management.
• Mean scores of staff nurses were high in all organizational trust dimensions as trust in the supervisors’ dimension is 33.5 ± 7.1 from 45, trust in co-workers’ dimension is 35.1 ± 5.9 from 45, trust in the organizational management dimension is 31.6 ± 6.6 from 45 and total organizational trust is 100.2 ± 16.0 from 135.
• Nearly two-thirds of the staff nurse had a high level of quality and safety; the majority of them had a moderate level of acceptable workload, and more than two-thirds had a moderate level of job involvement and intention to stay.
• Mean scores of staff nurses were moderate in all intentions to stay dimensions as job involvement dimension is 17.5 ± 2.3 from 25, acceptable workload dimension is 43.5 ± 4.1 from 65, support is 75.4 ± 10.2 from 105, job satisfaction dimension is 19.7 ± 3.9 from 30, and total organizational trust is 175.4 ± 18.3 from 250. On the other hand, mean scores of staff nurses is high in quality and safety dimension is 19.3 ± 2.7 from 25.
• There are positive correlations between organizational trust of staff nurse with their intention to stay and its dimensions.
Conclusion
It can be concluded from the current study that near to half of the staff nurse had a high level of organizational trust, and more than half had moderate level. On the other hand, more than two-thirds had a moderate level of intention to stay. In addition, there were positive correlations between organizational trust of staff nurse with their intention to stay and its domains.
Recommendations
Based on the current study’s findings, the following recommendations are made.
• Increase trust between staff nurses and supervisors to ensure that effective through provision of safe care and enhance work effectiveness and minimize errors and dissatisfactions.
