Abstract

In the current study, we found that 46.6% of pregnant women during COVID-19 had depression, 5.5 % had post-traumatic disorder, 64.3 % had state anxiety, and 60.9% had trait anxiety. it was noticed that percentage of state anxiety, trait anxiety and depression was higher in infected women with COVID19 than not infected women. However, PTSD was almost equal in both groups (5.5%).
Women who screen in their second trimester and work in medical field were more vulnerable for depression while presence temperature more than 38c, sever cough, contact with COVID-19 patient, infected with Covid-19 especially in second trimester or in third trimester were more vulnerable for anxiety. In contrast, had one fetus in current pregnancy, previous one abortion, or no previous abortion, and work in medical field were more vulnerable for PTSD.
Recommendation
•Further research with longitudinal study design to establish causality between COVID-19 infection and prenatal mental illness.
• Further research with large sample size for mothers attained primary health units, clinics, and hospitals as well as from community to generalizable results to the overall Egyptian women.
Further research with paediatricians’ doctors to assess infant and its developmental outcomes.
•Needs to public health education initiatives in the current and future health crisis. This also reiterates the important role healthcare staff plays in alleviating anxiety and stress in such situations. professionals should be supported within healthcare service delivery and utilized by the organization to enable them to do justice to this important role., Cultural beliefs in this region.
