Abstract

Initially preparation and evaluation of modified corncobs by reacting 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl triethylammonium chloride with corncobs under alkaline condition where amine groups have been introduced during the preparation to give agglomeration property and ion exchange to the corncobs. The produced materials were rated by using the spectral analysis of infrared (FT-IR), thermogravimetrical analysis (TGA) and it was conducted elemental analysis of its components (C, H, N) in addition to the evaluation in the field to get rid of some pollutants from water. Findings from this part showed that the use of corncobs in the water purification led to the elimination of most of the suspended materials and reduce the proportion of colloidal silica and organic substances tested water in addition to the removal of some pollutants. Also this study includes evaluation of factors affecting the efficiency of these materials to remove some metal elements, colloidal silica, turbidity and organic matter by studying the impact of each of pH, mixing time, the concentration of coagulant. The results showed the ability of the prepared material of corncobs remove some metals from water addition to reducing turbidity, colloidal silica and organic matter from the water test shop at pH ranges between (5.5 to 8.5) and mixing time 15 minutes at a concentration of 0.6 mg / l
