Abstract This study started with 19 plants that were extracted and screened for cytotoxic activity against colon and breast cancer cell lines. Plant extracts with lowest IC50 were incorporated in formulations. Seventeen new formulae were suggested for colon cancer. Five of them were chosen for subsequent chemical and biological analysis. While twelve new formulae were suggested for breast cancer, three of them were chosen for subsequent chemical and biological analysis. Qualitative analysis was done for all chosen extracts by liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy LC/MS. Quantitative analysis was done for all chosen extracts by high performance liquid chromatography HPLC using standards. Total phenolic and flavonoid determination were done too. One formula cinnamon / oregano was chosen for preparation of nanoparticles coated with chitosan for stability enhancement and bioavailability improvement. New suggested Nano formula was tested against colon cancer cell line HCT-116 and apoptosis mechanism of cytotoxicity was assured by activation of caspase-3 and loss of mitochondria membrane potential. Finally, quality control tests were done to the new suggested formulae, results obtained met the acceptable limits of heavy metals, pesticide residue, aflatoxins and bacterial and fungal count |
