Abstract

Background:Brain trauma cause many adverse effects such as depression, cognitive and neurological problems. Objective: toevaluate the efficacy of new modality LLLT as non-invasive treatment of brain injury (an experimental comparative study). Material and Methods: 33 mice aged (3 month, weight 25g-35g)divided into 3Groups:- GI: composed of 5 mice, (negative control group) with neither traumanor treatment. GII: composed of 14 mice, traumatic brain group (positive control group). GIII: composed of 14 mice, (traumatized laser-treated group). Induced trauma was by weight DROP model (90g), which use gravitational force and with vertical distance 28.5cm. After induction of trauma, physical, neurological and behavioral (body weight, wire grip motor test, forced swim test and neurological severity score) were performed for GI, GII and GIII. The histopathological study was done after scarification of mice at time points 12h, one day, 3 days and 28 days post trauma. Results: There were significant improvements in(traumatizedlaser- treated group) than traumatized group in body weight at day 18 p< 0.01, wire grip motor test at day 28 p< 0.001, forced swim test at day 11(p< 0.05), NSS at day 28 P< 0.05and improvement by histopathological study at day 28 by lesion score (congestion 0%, edema 25% and pyknosis 20%). Conclusion this study supports the idea that low level laser can play an important role in treatment of brain injury, that provide rational for using therapeutic laser in human patient with neurological problems
