Abstract

Deaf and mute adolescents suffer from many mental health problems and lack of psychological services. Therefore, this study aimed to assess mental health problems and services of deaf and mute adolescents. A descriptive correlational design was utilized in the current study. A purposive sample of 200 deaf and mute adolescents was selected from El Amal deaf and mute school in Lebanon Square. Seven tools were used, socio demographic data sheet, manifest anxiety scale, psychological stress scale, psychological needs scale, self -esteem scale, Beck depression scale and psychological services scale. Findings revealed that deaf and mute adolescents suffer from high levels of (anxiety, depression and psychological stress), and moderate level of psychological services. Also represented that, statistical significant relation were found between anxiety and psychological stress , between depression and anxiety, between depression and psychological stress, between self-esteem and satisfaction of psychological needs and between depression and satisfaction of psychological needs.The current study concluded that, mental health problems of deaf and mute adolescents might be increased due to limit psychological clinics and special foundations for them, sign language is not familiar for all psychological team and other people, and there is no interpreter for sign language in psychological clinics. This study recommended that, Increase attention to this marginalized category by providing psychological, social, vocational and educational services for them provide interpreter of sign language in all psychiatric clinics, provide training centers for teaching sign language for all people to learn how to deal with deaf and mute people
