Abstract

Aim of the study: To compare the two used methods of indirect bonding regarding the patient{u2019}s satisfaction during the bonding procedure. To compare the accuracy of transferring orthodontic attachments in all three planes of space by two indirect bonding widely used techniques, using means of 3 dimensional (3D) scanning and superimposition ,and to record the failure rate of the orthodontic tubes of posterior teeth over a four months period. Materials and methods: A randomized controlled trial was performed, 21 subject with fully erupted upper and lower first and second permanent molars showing no signs of enamel defects or signs of gingival inflammation were recruited in this study. 168 attachments were bonded to first and second molar teeth. A questionnaire was given to each subject to measure their satisfaction towards the used indirect bonding trays. After placement of molar tubes on the working model, the model was scanned with a desktop scanner, and the preoperative STL model was saved, a Vinyl polysiloxane VPS tray and a soft vacuum-formed tray were fabricated, one on each half of the working model, then the tubes were transferred to the patient{u2019}s dentition, a secondary impression was then made and poured, and the post-transfer model was then scanned with the same desktop scanner and the post-transfer STL model was saved. By using the Geomagic qualify version 12, the 2 STL models were superimposed and the deviations were detected for 3 linear measurements (mesio-disal, occluso-gingival, bucco-lingual) and 3 angular measurements (tip, torque, rotation). The debonded tubes were recorded for a follow up duration of 4 months
