Abstract The production of (C.G.I) castings and its properties still needs investigation. In this study, the melt was prepared to achieve the desired microstructure with pearlitic matrix and nodularity needed for the best mechanical properties. The pouring time was adjusted to achieve the desired Mg content. This research succeeded in producing sound C.G.I engine block with built-in cooling system; the resulting microstructure and mechanical properties gives the best nodularity and strength specified for engine blocks. The resulted engine block was assembled and tested for 24 hours to ensure its reliability. Finite element was used to simulate the operating conditions of the diesel engine; the results showed that the stress induced in the engine cylinder block was around 216 MPa for 20 MPa pressure and 450 {u00B0}C at the vicinity of engine cylinder bore |
