Abstract

Myringoplasty aims to reconstruct the perforated tympanic membrane, restoring protection to the middle ear and improve hearing. In this prospective study, we assess the effect of the site and the size of the perforation on the success rate of myringoplasty regarding anatomical closure. Twenty patients underwent microscopic transcanal cartilage myringoplasty and were then followed up for 5 months from the date of operation. Patients with dry perforation, good cochlear reserve, intact and mobile ossicular chain and functioning Eustachian tube were selected randomly for the operation. Oto-endoscopic image of all cases was obtained preoperative and postoperative to evaluate the outcomes. We found that small to intermediate perforation has higher success rate than the large and the posterior perforation has higher success rate than the anterior perforation
