Abstract

Sinbad sand channel lies in west delta deep Marine concession (WDDM), offshore Nile delta, Egypt. Non-commercial gases have been reported by an exploratory well drilled in the area. The channel has a northern extension across faults and it’s believed that these faults may play role in gas migration to this extension. The present study is dedicated to establish an integrated workflow to assess the gas potentiality in the northern extension of the Sinbad channel. Seismic attributes analysis, advanced rock physics, and seismic inversion techniques are extensively employed for reservoir characterization. Average Absolute Amplitude (AAA) of seismic data are calculated from the stacked data along Sinbad channel. The cutoff in the amplitude is consistence with the picked faults. AAA maps succeeded to identify and delineate the bright spot resulted from gas migration along these faults. Fault seal analysis approach is employed to emphasize if the faults penetrated the Sinbad sand channel seal or leak accumulated gases. Fluid replacement approach is used for the AVO class-identification for water and gas cases. Post and pre-stack seismic inversions integrated with borehole data (Zp, Zs, density, Vp/Vs, Poisson’s ratio, Lambda-Rho, and Mu-Rho) are used in an attempt to better understand the lithology and fluid distribution in the channel and its northern extension
