Sexual dysfunction among female patients with type 2 DM attending the endocrinology clinic in KasrAlainy Hospital

Abstract
Background: Sexuality is an integral component of a woman’s global well-being. Sexual dysfunction not only contributes to personal and interpersonal stress, but it also may herald other medical or psychosocial problems that significantly affect a woman’s health. Sexual dysfunction (SD) is one of the important problems in diabetic patients. Aim of work: to evaluate the impact of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in females aged 20-45 ys old on their sexual function. Material and method: this is a comparative case-control study which included 300 females (20-45years),150 were diabetics collected from the Endocrinology clinic in KasrAlainy hospital ,and 150 control were nurses or patients relatives. Avalidated interviewing structured questionnaire is used which consists of the following data: Sociodemographic data, Female sexual Function Index, Pinney sexual function Inventory Medical records of patients were used to obtain body mass index (BMI) and details of complications. Results:There was statistical significant difference between diabetic and non-diabetic females regarding all domains of FSFI and in the total score which means that type2 DM greatly affects female sexual life Conclusion: Sexual problems are frequent among diabetic women but it is still poorly understood; low Female Sexual Function Index ( FSFI) is associated with high BMI. Further studies are necessary to better understand risk factors for Female Sexual Dysfunction ( FSD )in diabetic women and deserve more attention in clinical practice
