Abstract As thyroid tumors is increasing recently indications for thyroidectomies is rising especially for differentiated thyroid cancer which needs further ablative dose of levothyroxine which leads to different effects on the body. Aim of work: Detect effects of different doses of levothyroxine on bone density and bone minerals especially calcium and vitamin D. Patient and methods: This study included 100 patients with thyroid tumors either benign or malignant during the period between November 2020 and April 2022, this study included pre and post-operative Vitamin D, calcium levels and DEXA scan. Results: this study showed that ablative dose of levothyroxine has osteoporotic effect especially on vitamin D and calcium. Conclusion: The importance of post thyroidectomy strict monitoring for calcium and vitamin D especially in differentiated thyroid carcinoma. |
