Abstract This study aimed to compare one-stage and two stages ridge splitting techniques using the piezoelectric device with simultaneous implant placement to treat maxillary anterior undercut areas. Materials and methods: A list of inclusion and exclusion criteria was used to select 14 patients with anterior maxillary undercut abnormalities. Participants have randomly randomized into two groups: group A had simultaneous implant implantation and inverted U-shaped maxillary ridge splitting using a piezotome. After a preliminary step of inverted U-shaped maxillary ridge splitting, group B underwent ridge expansion and implant implantation using only an envelop flap four weeks later. The assessment included cone beam computed tomography readings of bone increase at the undercut area and bone density at each group’s labial side of the implants. Results: There was a significant bone width increase at the undercut area in both groups A and B after four months of the splitting and implant placement, with no significant difference between the two compared groups. The increase in bone density labial to the implant was also found to be significantly different from the initial measurements in both groups, with no significant difference between the both compared groups. All cases in both groups showed routine healing, except two patients in group A and one in group B showed soft tissue inflammation managed conservatively. |
