Abstract

Traditional medicine has been used for decades and is still at the heart of medicine in many Asian countries (Seedhom et al., 2011). About two-thirds of the population of developed and developing countries use alternative medicine respectively, as previously reported by WHO (World Health Organization, 2001). Secondary metabolites are regarded as the active pharmacological compounds of medicinal plants (Hao & Xiao, 2020). Family Moraceae, which is usually referred to as the mulberry family, is considered a huge family as it is composed of about 40 genera and about 1,000 species of deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs. Most of its distribution occurs in tropical and subtropical areas. (Britannica, 2008). The most important genera of the family are Artocarpus, Morus, and Ficus (Hari et al., 2014).
